Service (Seva)?

Swami used to say that “If you are lifting your hand to serve, to help to console, to encourage another, you are lifting it for God. Because in everyone there is God”.

What is Service (Seva)?

A selfless support to an individual or living being in time of need, with love and compassion to mitigate pain or problem visualising presence of God in recipient is true seva. Love is basis of service. To express compassion in service activity you have to forego the ego and possessiveness instincts.

 Service as worship- Service to human being is first spiritual path. It is most important component of Sadhana. Swami used say that every action should be done with an attitude of offering to God. When we offer services to God we receive love in exchange. Then there is divinity in service. Service in all its form is a spiritual exercise for mental clean-up.

Why to Serve Other- Baba used to say that all humans are reflection of same entity. The real purpose of human life is to render services to the needy. Service to a man is to service to God. It is the best form of prayer. This is the best way to earn Gods love.

Where to start Seva – Service need to be started from home. After the home prepare for wider seva outside the home. Baba says that “share your joy, your wealth and your knowledge with the less fortunate. This is surest means of winning Divine Grace.
